Water Charges & Metering

How will water charges affect Irish households?

  • Households without a water meter will be charged based on the number of occupants:
  • between €80-€160 for a single adult;
  • between €130-€260 for two adults or more.
  • Households in posses of a water meter will be charged based on the volume of the water supplied; charges will nonetheless never exceed the capped charges of €160 or €260.
  • 21m3 per service is the yearly water allowance for children aged 17 years old and under.
  • Charges will be capped at a maximum yearly amount until the end of 2018.
  • All primary residents may register with Irish Waters to apply for a €100 conservation grant per year.
  • Not permanently occupied domestic properties will also be charged if connected to either water supply or wastewater (or both).

So, what does this mean for our customers?

Well, as a customer of Irish Water your bill will be either based on your meter readings or fixed at a capped level. For those who currently have no meter installed, the uncapped level will apply. Where it’s a case that either meter readings or capped level rates apply, only the lowest rate will be billed.
